Bringing up Colton

So, now that I'm officially a "supermom," I've got all the time in the world to tell you all about my son.

Week 22 1/2

So, I went to the dr's office a couple days ago, and I got the results from my most recent HbA1c, aka glycosylated hemoglobin. It's a rather routine test done on diabetics to see their average glucose in the past 120 days. For the first time since my diagnosis 18 years ago, I got my HbA1c down below 6.0. In fact, my result was 5.8! That made me sooooo happy to see that, especially since that's a very important number for Baby Bishop so that he stays happy and healthy until he makes his grand entrance to the world.

In other news, Grandpa Marty, Uncle Mike, Aunt Dana, and Cousin Caleb are all leaving for a 2 week vacation to Finland. They'll be attending a family reunion in our family's village up north of the Arctic Circle in Lappland. I can't wait to see the pictures and hear all the stories from their trip. During the summertime, Finland is a beautiful place, I really enjoyed myself when I went there 3 years ago.

Oh, and I should mention that Steven got the coveted award for being the World's Greatest Dad-to-be, and in recognition of this accomplishment, Baby Bishop and I gave him the one and only World's Greatest Dad-to-be t-shirt. :)

Week 22

Baby Bishop is making his presence known to me more and more these days...I think his favorite activities are pushing on my bladder and kicking. I've spent a lot of time pondering the fact that in (hopefully) less than 18 weeks, Steven's and my life will change forever, and the concept of my becoming a parent is still a wee bit overwhelming. One of my comforts is that I have a partner on the journey of life, and I am so blessed that we will have each other's love, support, and strength while we, together, raise up our first child. And through my fears and shortcomings, I am blessed to have this miracle forming within me right now and confident that God will give me the wisdom and patience to be the mother that He's called me to be. We'll see how it works out...

Half Baked

So, this is the week where the "bun in the oven" is officially half baked. For those of you who have forgotten, that means that I am now 20 weeks pregnant. Baby Bishop and I have been on a growth spurt recently, gaining a total of 10 pounds so far. I'm feeling him kick occasionally, and my growing stomach now makes it impossible to wear non-maternity pants.

Dad has begun work on the nursery, and it's already beginning to look a lot less like a guest room and more like a baby's room. :) Since we're living in an apartment, we don't plan on painting the nursery. Instead, we're using Dad's talent for making a room feel "homey" to make this special place for our baby boy. My contribution to the nursery will be a cross-stitch, since I don't know how to sew, quilt, or knit. I'm hoping that this online journal will make up for my ignorance of the crafting arts of classic homemaking.

Steven and I have decided on nautical and aeronautical themes in the room with a color scheme of red, navy, yellow, and sky blue. Since both grandpas’ are captains, we thought that a boat theme (with a few airplane accents in the mix) would suit Baby Bishop's heritage quite nicely.

Recent adventures of Baby Bishop

Oh my goodness! Dana & I scouted out baby gear at several stores, and after 3 hours of debating travel systems, cribs, and diaper bags, we gave up. I've never seen so many baby "thingies" under one roof! I don't know what I would've done without Aunt Dana and Cousin Caleb's help. Who knew that you'd need so much "stuff" to take care of a little munchkin? After all, right now, all Steven and I have to do to take the family for an outing is pack along an extra snack for mom. :)

On that note, our little family has been quite busy during the past couple weeks. After my yellow gear hunt, Steven, Baby Bishop and I left for San Jose for a long weekend and to attend Taryn and Jason's wedding in Monterey. Our trip was a blast, but I got really, really tired from all the walking and intense sunshine. I must say, though, that I really enjoyed being outside of my cubicle and spending some quality time with my little family.

Last weekend, Steven's dear friend and fellow Marine, Jones, married Aunt Kim in a lovely, intimate ceremony. Baby Bishop was honored to be the only boy to be present at the bouquet ceremony (he didn't contribute a flower to the bride's bouquet because that was only for the girls), and he really enjoyed Uncle Jerry's barbecue.

My stomach's aching quite a bit from all the tendons stretching out to make room for Baby Bishop, and I'm beginning to grow a bit faster now. Every once in a while, I feel a swift jab, and I wonder, what happened to all those butterflies I was supposed to feel? I didn't think that these swift karate kicks were supposed to be so intense at this point. Well, he's definitely Steven's son. :)
